Essential Features in a Robust Workwear Fabric

Sunny Special has adopted multi-fibers blending and integrated post-treatment technology to add value to the fabric, making the fabric comply with EN11611, EN1162, EN13034, NFPA 2112, and ASTM F1959 with additional durable water repellent performance.
These features are contributed by OPF, modacrylic, rayon, and aramid fibers. Lightweight FR fabric can replace regular FR-treated cotton fabric without sacrificing thermal protection while offering more comfort and breathable performance, thanks to inherent FR fibers' contribution with a higher thermal resistance function.

Why choose inherent FR fabrics instead of treated FR fabrics?

Treated flame-retardant fabrics are chemically treated to give them the flame retardancy; meanwhile, inherent flame-retardant fabric is composed of fibers that are inherently flame-retardant. When working clothes are worn for a long time, the function of chemically treated flame-retardant fabrics will decrease with washings. Only workwear made of inherent flame-retardant fabrics will not have reduced effect after laundering.

Why is important to choose multi-functional FR fabric for workwear?

When choosing a flame-retardant fabric for workwear, you should first assess the risks involved in the workplace, considering possible flash fires, the expected degree of damage to heat and flames in arc flash, and so on. You must then assess the climate in the region and choose the appropriate fabric. However, disasters are sometimes unpredictable. If disasters occur, work clothes with high visibility can help the wearer to be clearly seen in the disaster area.

Which fabric standards do workwear fabrics suitable for general manufacturing need to pass?

These special fabrics are all tested by the fabric manufacturer for fire resistance, anti-static, arc rating, and other factors to confirm the function can be achieved. Fabric that passed EN ISO 11612, NFPA 70E, and NFPA 2112 possesses flame-retardant ability; that passed EN 1149-5 has antistatic ability. For different work risks, fabrics that have been tested in EN ISO 11611 and EN 13034 also have the ability to resist spatter from welding and liquid chemicals.
